$TWTR @Jack Has A Very Large Problem With Safety, Advertisers and Advertising.

It’s perfectly acceptable to solicit HITMEN on twitter.

So when Jack Dorsey says Twitter starts with Safety, I know this to be an outright lie.

I know this because I have reported this tweet soliciting a hitman to Twitter support.  The attached response was received.

It’s INSANE to me that soliciting a hitman does not violate twitter’s policy.  I documented submitting the tweet to Twitter support here.

Just for fun I will report it again.

Twitter already delivers some of the lowest rates of visits to external sites among the leading social media platforms.

Facebook leads at 62% outbound traffic to just 6% for twitter.

Now Twitter wants to hold a market captive, while lowering the visibility of the tweets.

No one knows if anyone reads anything they tweet, even when their followers have chosen to follow them and see tweets.

Twitter hides a significant amount of data that Facebook releases.

I have NO idea how twitter advertisers can reasonably calculate a ROI on twitter unless very large corporate advertisers are given access to data that smaller advertisers are not given through “Twitter Ads” within the twitter ap itself.

Jack Dorsey is designing a bubble that stops conversation, and for potential advertisers this is NOT a good thing.

Now Jack Dorsey has instituted Safety rules which:

Collapsing potentially abusive or low-quality Tweets:
Our team has also been working on identifying and collapsing potentially abusive and low-quality replies so the most relevant conversations are brought forward. These Tweet replies will still be accessible to those who seek them out. You can expect to see this change rolling out in the coming weeks.

However it should be noted that empowered “activists” with access to Twitter Safety label political enemies as “low quality.”

And the very same activists note that Twitter has been hiding death threats from them.

Randi, who designed a bot to hide hashtags, runs amuck on twitter and silences LGBT advocates.

However, as Randi Lee Harper notes, the “low quality” designation is subjective.

Randi Lee Harper, founder of Online Abuse Prevention Org propagated ISIS on twitter.

How is a safety consultant that propagates ISIS A SAFETY CONSULTANT?

How is Jack Dorsey doing anything that actually makes people safer yet lets them communicate with their target audiences and friends?

To help advertisers make decisions about where to spend their valuable advertising dollars we propose the following:

  1.  Twitter reveal the nature of their low quality algoritm.
  2. Twitter provide reasonable, adjusted estimates of click through rates after application of their algorithm.
  3.  Twitter make it known to potential advertisers before purchase if THEY are considered low quality by Twitter.
  4. Twitter give advertisers the option to tweet advertising without application of Twitter’s algorithm to their tweets & to replies to their tweets.
  5.  Twitter eliminate the millions of known fake accounts now known to exist.

We note that CA state law prohibits retribution by companies of authors of online reviews.

We consider twitter’s algorithm, if tweets to companies people are customers of are suppressed, to violate the spirit and intent of that law, if not the letter of the law.

What use is being able to tweet a company you are a  customer of if Jack Dorsey *winki *wink suppresses your speech with an unexplained algorithm.

OF COURSE BUSINESS CONSIDERS BAD REVIEWS “LOW QUALITY.”  That’s why we need a LAW in the first place.

Essentially Twitter has failed to adequately handle abuse, and now is suppressing conversations of many people in far to wide a net.

Jack Dorsey thinks his opinion of what is good content is superior to consumers who can choose to mute, block or not follow at all.

And Jack Dorsey glaringly fails to address actual terrorists operating on twitter in large numbers.  Terrorists his OWN SAFETY CONSULTANT has propagated.

Nick Flor is a Professor at University of New Mexico.  A professor of Cognitive Science. Hardly one to be considered “low quality.”

Jack Dorsey is destroying the ability to communicate on twitter.    This seems a bad thing for a communications company on the internet.

Twitter is a black hole of traffic.  Once you are on it, you have no idea if people THAT WANT TO READ YOUR TWEETS can read your tweets.

Why Does @Jack and Twitter Play Favorites in Targeted Abuse Cases? #custserv #cybersecurity $TWTR

It’s beyond a given that Jack and Twitter allow abuse of a huge portion of their own customer base.

Journalists Kristen V Brown and Kassy Dillon have routinely received death threats with inaction by @support.

The only question now is why.

The answer seems to be politics, as even Jack shyly demured when an interviewer noted that his politics were pretty clear.  (21:04).

Model Kate Upton came under massive attack after being targeted by Roland Martin for daring to express her opinion bout Colin Kaepernick’s flag protest.

I do not believe Ms. Upton joined twitter to be condescended to or ordered about by Mr. Martin.

And yet @jack has not DM’d Kate Upton to render assistance as she is on her third day of targeted abuse by black lives matters advocates.

This after leaping to the defense of actress Leslie Jones after she tweeted racist and colorist tweets for years.

The misogyny and hatred is in tremendous volume with no sign of slowing down.

Everybody knows how it works, anticipates it.

These are but a small sampling of the abuse heaped on some, with inaction by @jack and @support.

That abuse heaped on Kate Upton directly contradict what Twitter General Council Vijaya Gadde wrote in her Washington Post Op Ed of 4/16/2015.

I’m often inspired by the vigorous debates on controversial issues that occur on Twitter, but I’ve also been seriously troubled by the plight of some of our users who are completely overwhelmed by those who are trying to silence healthy discourse in the name of free expression. At times, this takes the form of hateful speech in tweets directed at women or minority groups; at others, it takes the form of threats aimed to intimidate those who take a stand on issues. These users often hide behind the veil of anonymity on Twitter and create multiple accounts expressly for the purpose of intimidating and silencing people. We have seen this type of behavior time and time again, including during GamerGate and other incidents involving both public figures and other individuals, so we are changing our approach to this problem, in some ways that won’t be readily apparent and in others that will be.

It’s clear Twitter does not enforce their terms of service and safety policy in a coherent, unbiased manner.

Why Does @Jack @Vijaya Allow Targeted Abuse Mobs To Flourish on $TWTR? #socialmedia #custserv

One thing that should be clear is that @jack does not have a commitment to his customers safety, privacy or ability to communicate freely on twitter.

Brianna Wu, (@spacekatgal) runs a 50,000 strong targeted abuse mob that she knowingly uses to attack twitter consumers.

Imagine the temerity of these people.  Discussing whether Eddie Izzard, a celebrity and public person, should be barred from commenting on transgender issues.

Clearly these people do not respect freespeech, commentary, satire and news, yet @jack allows them to habitually attack his consumers.

The #beyhive of @beyonce functions in much the same way.   Launching attacks  coordinated off their own forums and attacking Twitter consumers in droves.

Simply google “beyhive” to see.  The news media is very kind and documents their actions.

The Ringer documented the Beyhive in an article entitled, “Inside The Beyhive” on June 3, 2016.

However @jack allows the beyhive to function as well.

What SEEMS to bother Jack is not that abuse on twitter exists and is rampant but an “uptick” in abuse.

The Verge wrote about journalist Milo Yiannopoulis on July 19, 2016,

Over the past 48 hours in particular, we’ve seen an uptick in the number of accounts violating these policies and have taken enforcement actions against these accounts, ranging from warnings that also require the deletion of Tweets violating our policies to permanent suspension.”

Notice the artful phrasing of “uptick.”  That is because Jack and Twitter tacitly condone attacks by SOME empowered abusers on twitter.

Twitter should do the right thing and ban the actual abusers.

Abusers such as @Randileeharper, @Spacekatgal, @glinner & @2dammuslim.

Abusers that target journalists in coordinated attacks and boast about it openly on Twitter.

Strangely enough, @2dammuslim has taken to deleting tweets.

Though the archives of the 3 below tweet s exist.  The original twitter URL is presented.

The archive of Glinner’s tagging in @2dammuslim to attack journalist @ninjaeconomics contains Mr. Muslim’s response.

Here Randi Lee Harper tags in @popehat and @2dammuslim because Mr. Kern (@grummz) is himself a lawyer.

And @Jack should actually stop the abusive of professional journalists such as Kristen V Brown and Kassy Dillon.

Bit of advice for Vijaya Gadde.  No, it’s not just you.  But you do fuck yourselves, consumers, investors, advertisers and businesses with your openly hostile to consumers policies.

I personally never read any tweets by Mr. Yiannopoulis urging his followers to attack anyone.

I read them all the time from people like Brianna Wu (@spacekatgal), Martin Linehan (@glinner), Randi Lee Harper (@randileeharper) and Boner Poopman AKA Mr. Muslim (@2dammuslim.)

Oh yes, the targeted abuse mobs includes close coordination with media such as Jesse Singal, editor for NY Mag.

Actually Jesse Singal actively participates in the cyberbullying.

Employee of @junipernetworks, @asherlangton has major diapout on $TWTR

Do you wonder why it’s become well known that twitter doesn’t value their own consumers and allows serial abuse and harassment?

When @jack took over, Jim Cramer urged them to help fight libel on Twitter.

Although simply a small part of a worse pattern of abuse that takes place on Twitter, violent threats and doxing, being lied about by people that you have blocked, with little to no recourse is costing Twitter customers.

When such maliciously abuse people, that are otherwise claiming to be cybersecurity professionals lie, it’s extremely frustrating.

Yet that’s what Asher Langston does.

Asher is employed by Juniper Networks, and is apparently free to tweet lies on company time (I’m in CA, and these tweets appear to have occured on regular work hours) about myself.

Given his longstand history of abuse (he has tweeted he had no idea who might want him fired after a busy week), it remains clear that safety and privacy are simply not a concern of Twitter’s for their customers.

This despite Twitter rules which ostensibly outlaws such practices, defining such activity as spam.

Twitter tweets are public.

Responding to them with legitimate intent to discuss a matter of public interest is perfectly appropriate and what twitter is for.

That the lady appears to have been willing to integrate what she learned on tv into her counseling practice however is not really appropriate in the State of California to my knowledge.

And when a tweet crossed my timeline that a licensed professional councilor was going to amend her practice to teach something she learned on television from @deray, I was concerned about it.

I tweeted her to inquire, and tweeted my local Congressman.  Congressman Costas and just slightly to the east of me, Congressman Devin Nunes.

Apparently in Asher land contacting your representatives on Twitter is done to “intimidate.”

Incidentailly I believe the congressmen are democrat and republican, respectively.

He surely didn’t ask me why I did it.  I did it because I was concerned with the efficacy of professional counseling by a licensee in the State of California.

Such harassment by serial liars and cyberbullies that you can’t even block is part of the reason twitter has the reputation it has.

They should clean up Twitter and start with getting rid of the obvious problem children, like Asher.

By the way, Asher doesn’t hold himself to the same apparent standard.  He researches people that tweet him.

Double standard much, Asher?

There’s A Reason Why #Twitter’s #Market Fundamentals Are Poor. #investors #cybersecurity

When times get tough, some companies return to basic tried and true fundamentals.

Some companies try for moonshots, according to The Motley Fool.

However the Motley Fool also notes “uninspiring fundamentals” as key to Twitter’s continuing slide in the marketplace.

I don’t think this will have a major impact on Twitter stock; investors are more concerned with the company’s uninspiring fundamentals. But any change that might help to boost user confidence, not to mention the service’s reputation, is welcome.

Many users ARE investors or potential investors and are put off by the abuse that Twitter allows.

I agree with the Motley Fool that poor user growth and poor engagement is a concern for Twitter.

After all, engagement levels on Instagram are through the roof and continue to grow.

However there’s a fundamental reason for why there’s poor growth and poor engagement at Twitter.

Word has gotten around that Twitter allows cyberbullying and it’s easily conducted through automated means with tweets purchased off sites like addmefast.com.

Or, fake followers can be purchased off sites that amass them and follow people in a bizarre reputation attack.

Worse yet, Twitter moderation allows the abuse, while censoring the truth about these abusive brands.

Instead of a “moonshot” Twitter should return to good old Midwestern customer service values, moderate fairly and to ethical standards, and not protect abusive brands like #digitalkeith from the truth about their own abuse.

Far from feeling safe, Twitter feels like a safe haven for cyberbullies to many of their customers.

Until Twitter means what they say about fighting abuse, instead of fighting a PR war, consumers have no reason to trust Twitter.

And all the advertisers in the world can just try to sell to each other on Twitter, while people enjoy Instagram and the safe environment they provide.

Otherwise Twitter’s users will simply continue to be bullied right off of Twitter.

Telling The Truth About Cyberbullies Is Necessary. #cybersecurity #Socialmedia

When you call law enforcement about cyberbullies one thing they might tell you is that, “the internet is not a friendly place.”

And it’s often not a friendly place due to companies being given immunity under the Communications Decency Act of ’96.

So, when I was being cyberbullied by Jason Cushman, AKA Opinionated Man on WordPress and Twitter, I reported him to both parties.

Twitter told me the threats resided on third party servers, ie WordPress servers, and WordPress support and forum admins told me I was free to blog about it, but not to mention it in the forums.

Of course, bringing it to the forums shines a bright spotlight on it in the general community, and WordPress doesn’t want that.

They’d also prefer apparently to have a vicious predator free to bully their customers.

How does Opinionated Man (did…) bully?

Contact With keith Gill

By threats, bullying and coercion on Twitter and WordPress.

This was a matter other social media and journalists were interested.

Where is Amelia Ceja?  Well, she was with Wine editor, Lili Coffin.

Why Opinionated Man took it upon himself to try to bully me out of writing about The Wine Wankers and their contested list, I will never know.

Other than he’s a self medicating man that beats his wife in his sleep.

He clearly has issues, and WordPress ignores him when they allow him to act predatorially against other customers.

Capture (1)

He TRIED to control what I could blog about.

And has a history of attacking other bloggers.

And he through constant vigilance and accurate reporting has now been convinced that he is powerless to stop truth being blogged or tweeted or otherwise disseminated.

Sorry Jason, but you did it to yourself.

Silence about cyberbullies who proliferate only allows them to continue their cyberbullying.

Dear Jason, my doubles tennis partners mom and grandma escaped from Korea during the war.  My friends grandpa was executed by communists for being an educator.

You learned nothing about truth, honesty, decency and being American by being adopted and brought here to be safe.

Perhaps you should consider returning, so you don’t attack people who actually tell you the truth as you consciously decide to engage in cyberbullying?

Your problems are of your own making, I assure you.

You act crazy…  And apparently expect others to put up with your crazy.

If anyone tells me you are bullying them I will blog about it to spotlight who and what you are.

And you will wither under the spotlight, again.

Remember that.

If You Wish To Potentially Be Abused By A Company You Give #Business To Give #EmpireKred A Try.

Gareth Davies (@me_gareth) is a leader at Empire Avenue.

And Gareth Davies is not a very intelligent man, I don’t believe.

When I first met Gareth he was busy telling me he was a large and very sad man.  This was on the Empire Avenue general community forums.

This is his very nature.  To try to be intimidating.

Recognizing a predator right off, I resolved to keep track of ongoing events.

When I reported Gareth’s abuse to Empire Avenue support via zendesk, support refused to act.

It’s important to note what a Leader at Empire Avenue (now EmpireKred) is.

Empire Avenue leadership

This response from alleged “leader” Keith Gill is typical of many people at Empire Avenue and their response.

(Keith Gill’s lack of caring for customers of Empire Avenue (now EmpireKred) and concern for their safety is appalling.)

So I reported Gareth and the other abusers from Empire Aveue to the CA DoJ.

After all, their abuse took place primarily on Twitter (other social media sites handled the abuse remarkably fast) and Twitter is in California.

And I am in California.

And they responded back on June 5, 2014, telling me to file with IC3.  So I did so.

653014 Letter DOJ REdacted

Gareth simply continued his abuse on Twitter.

My reports to Twitter fell on deaf ears, so I reported to the San Francisco DA’s office.

The DA’s office twice opened files, and the CA DoJ opened an inquiry on 12/30/2014.

All of this because Empire Avenue was openly abusing their customers on Twitter (and elswhere) and Chris Sandys wanted that abuse “off the record.”

The predatorial acts of one man caused multiple law enforcement actions which Empire Avenue (now EmpireKred) has never acknowledged nor apologized for.

According to Ethel Newlin of the San Francisco District Attorney’s office blogging helped change the policies in place at Twitter.

Want to be abused by a company you’re a customer of?  Give EmpireKred a try.

Gareth Davies is still a leader there, despite being suspended for tweeting a customers private information, violent threats and being warned again for violent threats.

And, upon examination you can see he’s been abusing customers for years.

Customers still report being punished for asking for bug fixes.

It seems with new ownership there has been no change in management philosophy.

Avoid EmpireKred until their management and leadership philosophy changes from one that allows abuse of their own customers.

Would You Trust This Educator With Your Child’s Safety? #Education #Cybersecurity #UVA

Update 11/4/2015:  We’ve confirmed that Steven L. Johnson is not listed as a “Brand Manager/Admin” on the EmpireKred website.  He remains a leader of EmpireKred.

Steven Johnson - Copy

Steven L. Johnson, Ph.D (@stevenljohnson) is an educator, and a former Brand Manager/Admin at social media gaming company, Empire Avenue (since renamed EmpireKred).

Why would a Brand Manager/Admin not respond to a safety threat to his own customer?

This negates a key safety provision of Twitter’s and leaves Gareth Davies free to attack and harass customers of Empire Avenue’s (or whoever else he abuses.)

EmpireKred has not made clear if Professor Johnson still holds that title, as Kred has not been forthcoming with much information subsequent to their buying Empire Avenue .

Edit 11/4/2015:  Confirmed Professor Johnson is no longer listed as a Brand Manager/Admin on the Empire.Kred site.

One customer describes the takeover as “creepy.”

Things Have Changed

Professor Johnson authored the following study, entitled…

The Emergence of Online Community Leadership

while employed at Temple University.

Professor Johnson was asked  the following direct question as to whether people from Empire Avenue were involved in the research.

Professor Johnson failed to provide a direct response.

Were Empire Avenue customers involved?

This is an entirely fair question given the documented history of Empire Avenue.

According to Chris Voss of The Chris Voss Show, nationally recognized social media expert,

Empire Avenue Fail 5 post overview: Over 5 posts on my blogs I documented issues with Empire Avenue, from their rogue volunteers, running a “wall of shame” on Brands, attacking Brands reputations online, not answering complaints, having a “goon squad” of endorsed volunteers attacking customers who complained, refusing to discipline internally thereby encouraging more attacks on Brands, etc. What I witnessed was the worst travesty in the annals of customer service I have ever seen. After a month of private discussions with EA to change things, I went public. Only then did they begin to change, but the attacks on me and others grew by their “goon squad.” In the end, I went to EA’s Angel Investor and EA had to shut down its Chat Room and Chat Mod “goons squad.” EA shamelessly has never apologized or produced it damning chat logs as promised by their CEO. This is one of those posts, you can read the rest by Search in the upper right for ‘Empire.’ Don’t play EA or if you do save your REAL money.

A COMPANY NEEDS TO PROTECT ITS CUSTOMERS! I think we can all agree it’s morally wrong for customers to be abused for complaints and speaking out. Its even sicker when those people are allowed to continue and the company does nothing.

Professor Johnson was mentioned in, and apparently ignored Gareth Davies (@me_gareth) admission that he cannot be blocked on Twitter.

Obviously this raises many profound ethical questions for Professor Johnson, at least.

Have Empire Avenue customers unknowingly been “observed” and their reactions included in any research conducted by Professor Johnson?

When does “observation” become “participation”?

Is it when you are in an authority position at Empire Avenue as not only a “Leader” (Professor Johnson’s Empire Avenue profile has the “leadership” badge), but an appointed Brand Manager/Admin?

Is your child (or anyone else) “fair game” if they happen to be a customer of Empire Avenue’s and a student at the university at which he now teaches, the University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce?

Why would an authority figure, and business school educator ignore that the business he’s a Brand Manager/Admin at is abusing their customers on a social media platform whose market they rely upon for their business?

Gareth Davies has been suspended by Twitter for tweeting a customers private information and violent threats.

He has been warned for non violent threats.

Additionally, Team Leader Nance Larson (@nancelarson) participated in doxing a customer, Leader Chris Sandys (@usafa_93) was warned for non violent threats, and Keith Gill (@Digitalkeith) had his twitter account locked.

Why would Professor Johnson not stop such outrageous conduct?

Gareth Davies even announces his intent to bully myself, a customer of Empire Avenue…

Abuse by Empire Avenue leaders of their own customers on Twitter led to a CA DoJ inquiry into Twitter, and the SF DA’s office twice opened files.

Gareth Davies was a central figure in that travesty of abuse of their own customers which Professor Johnson ignored.

I predict some of the world will obsessively read and try to stop such consumer advocacy blogging.

The rest of the world will probably avoid the company.

You Can Take The Boy Out of Jersey…. #cyberbullying #safety

One has to wonder what “social sales rock star” Keith Gill (AKA DigitalKeith) means by “Escalates”?

Keith Gill is a leader at Empire Avenue, (now “EmpireKred”) has a strange connection.

WordPress blogger Opinionated Man is a known spammer, troll and bully with a history of bullying WordPress bloggers.

Talk of killing and “big mouths”, and Keith Gill is mentioned in these tweets…

What’s astounding is that the person being threatened, myself, is a customer of Empire Avenue’s being subjected to this tremendous abuse on Twitter.

Such abuse caused a CA DoJ investigation into Twitter and the SF DA’s office twice opened files due to the abuse, of which Mr. Gill is a part.

Empire Avenue’s concern for the only safety and cybersecurity (lack thereof) of their own customers is probably  best illustrated by these tweets.

Gareth Davies (@me_gareth) cannot be blocked, which renders a key safety provision of Twitter’s moot.

And yet Empire Avenue Brand Manager/Admin Steven L. Johnson has no comment or concern about the ongoing harassment and abuse of Empire Avenue customers by Gareth Davies.

Gareth has an extrensive record of doxing and attacking other customers of Empire Avenue’s having been suspended for tweeting a customers private information and violent threats.

Additionally he has been warned for violent threats.

For Example:

Gareth’s abuse of Empire Avenue customers on Twitter an extremely large part of the aforementioned investigations by the CA DoJ and SF DA’s office.

According to Chris Voss of the Chris Voss Show, nationally recognized social media expert,

Over 5 posts on my blogs I documented issues with Empire Avenue, from their rogue volunteers, running a “wall of shame” on Brands, attacking Brands reputations online, not answering complaints, having a “goon squad” of endorsed volunteers attacking customers who complained, refusing to discipline internally thereby encouraging more attacks on Brands, etc. What I witnessed was the worst travesty in the annals of customer service I have ever seen. This is one of those posts, you can read the rest by Search in the upper right for ‘Empire.’ Don’t play EA or if you do save your REAL money.

A company is responsible for overseeing its reps and volunteers that are endorsed and sanctioned by the company, in making sure they are in line with a Company code of conduct. Let me ask you something, if you were to go into Walmart or Nordstoms, make a complaint with Customer Service would you expect or allow yourself to continually be attacked and bullied by their Company volunteer staff? Then over a month it continues and gets worse the more you complain? I’m warning everyone with no question to avoid Empire Avenue. If your Brand comes under the ire of one of their rogue Chat Mods, Empire Avenue can’t protect the bashing of your Brand and doesn’t seem to care in my opinion. I’m telling people to run from this company, keep your money or ask for a refund. This is a perfect example of a social media fail everyone should be blogging about and making lesson plans on!
