Gamergate pitted 2 sides against the other.  Which was right and which was wrong?

That depends on your politics and tolerance for abuse. Both sides employed/deployed bots, trolls and abuse mobs.

Brianna Wu:

The tech CEO and public speaker, former journalist, ran for Congress on a progressive ticket and had an impressive showing (starting from essentially zero) and is building her base for a 2020 run.

Anita Sarkeesian:

Anita continues her work at Feminist Frequency with a podcast & social advocacy.  She wrote a book and continues her public speaking career.

Zoe Quinn:

The artist/programmer/social advocate is now involved in the comic book industry with DC Comics.  Something tells me the character is based on someone we know.

Randi Lee Harper: 

The allegedly racist troll/doxer/hacker harassment mob leader Republican lives off donations to her patreon and is in hiding after daring people to dox her.

Randi, according to journalist Jesse Singal, has silenced marginalized communities (LGBT) with her blocking and autoblocker bot.

After scoring a $13 million dollar startup fund for Dangerous, Milo has been ostracized by polite society for networking with white supremacists and trolls as part of his shtick.

Milo ocassionally whines on Facebook about the injustice of it all.

Ethan Ralph

Proprietor of a muckraking site, The Ralph Retort, Ralph has returned to limited podcasting after being released from prison. He served time for assaulting law enforcement.

Ethan Ralph is a frequent guest on white nationalist podcasts such as Red Ice.

Ethan Ralph’s political editor Lane Davis shot his own father to death (called him a nazi) and is serving time in prison.

Ralph now spends his time tweeting people about being a convicted felon and suggesting they self harm.

Mike Ma:  Breitbart Journalist Mike Ma was suspended by twitter for abuse and disappeared into the void never to be heard from again. We think he’s “Admin” on Dangerous but who cares?

Unless you can account for the massive use of social media that Barack Obama started and Donald Trump perfected you can’t account for how fake news by media such as Jesse Singal affected the 2016 Potus election.

So how did Jesse Singal manage to impact the election to such a huge degree?

By aligning with a SJW mob, and doing their fake #news for them.

Randi Lee Harper, a notorious abuser on Twitter has met with Twitter Safety.

 

Twitter General Council Vijaya Gadde had this to say about abuse on twitter in her Washington Post Op-Ed entitled, “Here’s how we’re trying to stop abuse while preserving free speech.”

This is, to put it mildly, not good enough. Freedom of expression means little as our underlying philosophy if we continue to allow voices to be silenced because they are afraid to speak up. We need to do a better job combating abuse without chilling or silencing speech.

One has to wonder how Jack Dorsey, Vijaya Gadde and the rest of Twitter’s leadership feel they can protect free speech and fight abuse while empowering abusers.

Anti Semitism in the Alt Right; Pepe The Frog, Beardson Beardly and @Jack #politics

Art is interpreted in the eyes of the beholder.  Thus what one person finds to be art another can legitimtely feel it’s trash.

Critical to interpretation of art however is the Artist’s Intent.  

With so many things in life, there is room for debate and alternate interpretations.

However with Pepe The Frog there is no debate that Pepe is used by some anti semites to intimidate, threaten and harass Jewish people on Twitter and more broadly on social media.

The alt right combined mediagenic personalities and memes to broadcast their anti semitical message to a general public more connected than ever on Facebook and Twitter.

Anti semites like Beardson Beardly bursting on the scene as a David Duke of sorts.  A mediagenic face conveying the ugly message.

Beardson, who appeared to have ingratiated himself with Mike Cernovich by hiding his true nature (even earning a shoutout from Mike on a periscope as “funny”) quickly networked with alt right figures and even threatened young GOP future leaders such as Kassy Dillon on Twitter.

Mr. Cernovich appears to have quickly detected the virulent anti semitism in Beardson and disassociated.

Beardson also opposed the #NeverTrump campaign led by Ben Shapiro and Louise Mensch of HeatStreet on twitter.

 

Their use is nazi like propaganda from the alt right, which themselves seem mostly disaffected southern and midwesterners holding onto old time prejudices and hatred hoping for a comeback.

It’s as if the South is trying to rise again.  I believe we fought a Civil War over that, however some dreams seem to die hard.

As journalist Kristen V Brown of Fusion writes in Twitter has failed at controlling horrifying anti-Semitism:

Secondly, the social network has time and time again failed to accurately and consistently assess abuse when it does make its way into Twitter’s review process. Twitter’s abusive behavior policy is famously vague, but even when the violations of it are indisputable, the network often fails to act. Earlier this year, I experienced this first hand when Twitter failed to take action against several death threats against me that very clearly violated its harassment policies.

 

No matter what you think about Beardson Beardly’s commentary, he has a history of overt threats on twitter.

The heretofore noted rise in anti semitism in Europe has made the jump to America, stoked by the high visibility and volume anti semitism that is on twitter.

Jack Dorsey and Twitter, as a #news branded application have moral culpability in allowing a massive parade of intimidation and filth on twitter.

We hope that there’s a lesson learner here.  That stoking the fires can and will result in flames.

Musician Sergio Michel was also attacked by elements of the alt right on twitter and has actively withdrawn from association with the alt right due to their lack of professionalism.

Mr Michel was quite appalled at the trolling on twitter by a journalist from a site that had sought him out for interview.

 

That is rather than write an assigned article, Mr. Cooper chose to troll Mr. Michel on a secondary (?) twitter account.

It’s beyond a given that Jack and Twitter allow abuse of a huge portion of their own customer base.

Journalists Kristen V Brown and Kassy Dillon have routinely received death threats with inaction by @support.

The only question now is why.

The answer seems to be politics, as even Jack shyly demured when an interviewer noted that his politics were pretty clear.  (21:04).

 

Model Kate Upton came under massive attack after being targeted by Roland Martin for daring to express her opinion bout Colin Kaepernick’s flag protest.

 

I do not believe Ms. Upton joined twitter to be condescended to or ordered about by Mr. Martin.

 

And yet @jack has not DM’d Kate Upton to render assistance as she is on her third day of targeted abuse by black lives matters advocates.

This after leaping to the defense of actress Leslie Jones after she tweeted racist and colorist tweets for years.

 

The misogyny and hatred is in tremendous volume with no sign of slowing down.

Everybody knows how it works, anticipates it.

These are but a small sampling of the abuse heaped on some, with inaction by @jack and @support.

That abuse heaped on Kate Upton directly contradict what Twitter General Council Vijaya Gadde wrote in her Washington Post Op Ed of 4/16/2015.

I’m often inspired by the vigorous debates on controversial issues that occur on Twitter, but I’ve also been seriously troubled by the plight of some of our users who are completely overwhelmed by those who are trying to silence healthy discourse in the name of free expression. At times, this takes the form of hateful speech in tweets directed at women or minority groups; at others, it takes the form of threats aimed to intimidate those who take a stand on issues. These users often hide behind the veil of anonymity on Twitter and create multiple accounts expressly for the purpose of intimidating and silencing people. We have seen this type of behavior time and time again, including during GamerGate and other incidents involving both public figures and other individuals, so we are changing our approach to this problem, in some ways that won’t be readily apparent and in others that will be.

 

It’s clear Twitter does not enforce their terms of service and safety policy in a coherent, unbiased manner.

The United Kingdom Home Affairs Committee published a report arguing that social media giants like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are “consciously failing” to combat the use of their sites to promote terrorism and killings,

In Twitter’s case this is undoubtedly true as Randi Lee Harper, allegedly an internet abuse expert, propagated ISIS on twitter.

Ms Harper has contacts with Twitter Safety (thought to be @Delbius) and openly boasts of being able to make queries of twitter and has openly violated consumers privacy in the past.

 

In a shocking display, Ms. Harper tweeted (tweets still live) an information dump of ISIS propaganda.

 

@Jack has tweeted with @Randileeharper, indicating that he takes her advice on “safety” seriously.

 

Jack responded to Randi Lee Harper after journalist Kara Swisher (running for San Francisco Mayor) tweeted Randi Lee Harper’s Medium article to @Jack for review.

Vocative has reported that ISIS has been growing at least as fast as Twitter has been suspending accounts, no doubt in large part to Randi Lee Harper’s propagating ISIS materials and Jack’s conscious disregard of safety for all of Twitter’s customers.

In fact, Twitter’s customers actually fight ISIS on twitter, with @Jack and @support frequently suspending accounts actively trying to aid the US & UK in the fight against terrorism.

I often wonder why it is that @Jack has such callous disregard for the safety of his consumers, even as Islamists openly declare Presidential candidate Donald Trump their enemy and solicit hitmen.

As for Randi Lee Harper, her motivation is clear.  To “burn down” Twitter.

And she has, however @Jack seems complicit in the burning of national security and twitter investors.

One thing that should be clear is that @jack does not have a commitment to his customers safety, privacy or ability to communicate freely on twitter.

Brianna Wu, (@spacekatgal) runs a 50,000 strong targeted abuse mob that she knowingly uses to attack twitter consumers.

Imagine the temerity of these people.  Discussing whether Eddie Izzard, a celebrity and public person, should be barred from commenting on transgender issues.

Clearly these people do not respect freespeech, commentary, satire and news, yet @jack allows them to habitually attack his consumers.

The #beyhive of @beyonce functions in much the same way.   Launching attacks  coordinated off their own forums and attacking Twitter consumers in droves.

Simply google “beyhive” to see.  The news media is very kind and documents their actions.

What SEEMS to bother Jack is not that abuse on twitter exists and is rampant but an “uptick” in abuse.

The Verge wrote about journalist Milo Yiannopoulis on July 19, 2016,

Over the past 48 hours in particular, we’ve seen an uptick in the number of accounts violating these policies and have taken enforcement actions against these accounts, ranging from warnings that also require the deletion of Tweets violating our policies to permanent suspension.”

 

Notice the artful phrasing of “uptick.”  That is because Jack and Twitter tacitly condone attacks by SOME empowered abusers on twitter.

Twitter should do the right thing and ban the actual abusers.

Abusers such as @Randileeharper, @Spacekatgal, @glinner & @2dammuslim.

Abusers that target journalists in coordinated attacks and boast about it openly on Twitter.

The “Gamergate” controversy has roiled twitter for coming up on 2 years.

Amazingly enough the most sustainably abusive person in Gamergate is Randi Lee Harper.

She’s managed to become an “anti abuse expert” while telling people to light themselves on fire, fuck off, “get fucked” in endless supply.

I can only imagine it’s because she has inside contacts with Twitter (@safety) and openly boasts about them.

Not only does she boast about them, she brags that she knows what is best for you whether you like it or not, and they can make these suggestions.

Often when I read through various accounts that are linked to Gamergate, however tenuously I cannot believe I am in America.

It’s Orewellian.

And it’s a high school soap opera once you realize that everyone on that page is a public person (at least now) and receives threats from the weirdos that inhabit the internet in endless amounts.

I myself have also received threats.

I funny understand that women perceive threats differently, but still some caution must be taken to make sure the threats are credible threats to yourself.

Quite frankly Randi Lee Harper openly advocates violence, hatred and is the most abusive person I have ever seen on the internet.

I have no idea why @Jack turned her and her mob loose on consumers.

They operate exactly as @Vijaya explained in her Washington Post Editorial, but they remain beyond moderation.

It is astonishing that @Jack and @Vijaya have allowed 3 people to harm Twitter to the extent that they have.

Lies not only poison the well for twitter and investors, but it destroys what Twitter is at it’s core.  A social media company.  A communications company.

Yet Randi Lee Harper, Zoe Quinn and Brianna Wu erode trust in Twitter daily as they regularly attack twitter consumers.

When Women Action Media teamed up with Twitter to work on the abuse problem, the study concluded that only .66% of harassment claimed by Randi Lee Harper was actually gamergate related.

#Gamergate is a hashtag that twitter allows.  

Yet Twitter allowed 4 women, Randi Lee Harper (@randileeharper), Brianna Wu (@spacekatgal), Zoe Quinn (@unburntwitch)  to label Twitter’s own customers as a “Hate group” equivalent to ISIS for tweeting to a hashtag.

Zoe Quinn is a partner with Randi Lee Harper in Online Abuse Prevention Initiative, allegedly an anti abuse organization.

Frankly it’s a leader in abuse on social media.

 

Although Brianna Wu lists Anita Sarkeesian (@femfreq) as the 4th of their group of women, I find no mention of comparing #gamergate tweets to ISIS in a search of tweets.

Hollywood actor Adam Baldwin invented it in a tweet.

Randi Lee Harper jumped on it, and started accusing a Hollywood Actor, Adam Baldwin, of being a leader of a hate mob.

And the media ate it up.

Online Abuse Prevention Initiative Founder Randi Lee Harper disseminated ISIS propaganda material on Twitter on January 14, 2016.

Randi Lee Harper partners with Alex Lifschitz (Crash Overrride Network), Zoe Quinn (Crash Override Network), and Sheri Rubin (Design Direct Deliver) who serve as inaugural members for the organization’s board of directors at the Online Abuse Prevention Initiative.

The series of tweets featured instructions that ISIS uses to create and propagate Bot nets and included a large data dump of ISIS accounts.

Not surprisingly, and as Gilad  Shiloach of Vocativ reports, ISIS has once again mustered a large number of accounts to attack Twitter.

This behavior is beyond bizarre and serves to disseminate and propagate ISIS, not limit it’s impact on Twitter and consumers.
